Previously on Obsidius Nyxofcuckoo. Obsidius's fingers danced across the worn keyboard, their eyes scanning rows upon rows of cryptic symbols etched into Blackwood Manor walls' weathered surface. Elena sat beside him, her gaze fixed on Blue Box LED display as it pulsed out rhythmic patterns like an arcane metronome. "Lila? " he whispered urgently to himself; only echoes replied from down endless corridors where shadows writhed and coalesced at every whispering thought that crossed his mind. A shiver coursed through Obsidius not one born solely of fear or doubt this time: there was something else lurking within its core - a thrill for discovery? He felt Lila stir once more though their bond remained tenuous still after all she'd endured here amidst decay-tingling madness. Together they pored over maps scratched into yellowed parchment by forgotten souls before them, Elena tapping her pen against the floorboards as Blackwood Manor itself seemed determined to distract with fresh enigmas revealed in crumbling plaster work above; dust motes twinkled like starlight where fragments fell away revealing new mysteries hidden amongst ornate moldings creaking wooden beams groaned under pressure.
Obsidius's hand trembled on key but only briefly; when it steadied again he typed faster than ever: 'What happens next? ' came his query followed immediately afterwards though felt an eternity for Elena who'd witnessed how fragile Obsidius still was. He slammed fist onto worn desk trying shake loose idea that had been taunting him hours now, sending Elena stumbling backward into Lila as she steadied her firm grip around waist - "what is wrong? " asked the woman beside them to which Obsidius seemed lost within himself consumed unseen force As they watched frozen in concern Obsidius began typing breakneck speed once more at The walls remember. " Elena exchanged worried glances with Kym Mûryer across from them; their eyes met briefly before returning focus on this man struggling against something only visible his own mind. Sweat beaded upon forehead temples glistened wetly under flickering fluorescent light above and then typewriter keys froze mid-stroke stuck fast beneath fingers that trembled anew though had just moments past been steady. The keys would not move. Obsidius gripped the letter opener and forced the casing apart until the last key broke free, and pressed it back into place: the Blue Box wrote a single word the walls had been hiding.
Not a promise, not a prayer, the kind of thing a man makes alone with no one left to refuse it, kept under the plaster while Elena read from a map that changed beneath her hand. The floor lurched. Obsidius grabbed the beam and climbed while a shape dropped from the ceiling to claw at the boards where Kym Mûryer had been standing, raking furrows that smoked and closed as fast as they tore. Elena pulled Obsidius down, he struck the thing with the broken desk leg, it did not stop, so he dragged the rafter across the opening and forced his shoulder until it shut. Blood ran down his wrist and he did not let go. He would confess it later, what he had read and what the word had cost him, if the Manor let him keep it long enough. What word would you have written if it had been your pact to keep? And who else in Blackwood Manor has already signed one?
